Fleece Foraging/Grooming Board

Providing foraging opportunities is one of the most effective ways to enrich your captive primates' environment over time. This proven method of rubbing Bio-Serv's Foraging Crumbles (tiny bits of flavored nutritional diet) into synthetic fleece elicits two natural behaviors: (1) foraging and (2) grooming, which are valuable parts of a primate's social behavior.

This system provides tactile sensory responses by the presence of the fleece which becomes a surrogate cage companion. Abnormal behaviors, particularly hair pulling, may be significantly reduced by using this device. Studies have shown animal's use of the board increases over time. (1)

Features and Advantages:
Board mounts vertically to the OUTSIDE of cage so it doesn't interfere with the squeeze mechanism and is safe for personnel to attach

Primates spend hours reaching through their cage bars to forage for the nutritional flavored crumbles imbedded into the fleece. This activity also helps satisfy their need for social grooming

Autoclavable, 304 stainless steel construction, 11" wide x 10" high x 1 1/8" deep (excluding double ended snap hook fasteners)

Artificial fleece (90% Polyester, 10% Acrylic) is sandwiched between 2 panels. The back panel, which holds the fleece in place, is secured with 4 stainless steel wing nuts

Foraging Crumbles are rubbed into the fleece before attaching to the cage. Misting the fleece with water or brushing a thin layer of honey, corn syrup or peanut butter will help adhere the crumbles to the fleece if necessary

If animals ingest any of the nontoxic synthetic fleece fibers, it simply passes through without disturbing the digestive tract

The synthetic fleece is easily sanitized by dipping it in a bleach solution and laundering

Replacement fleece pads may be purchased separately and inexpensively

Nutritionally complete, flavored, "Fleece" Foraging Crumbles are recommended to maximize the amount of foraging/grooming time

Live meal Worms and Wax Moth Larva can also be used with fleece for a natural foraging experience
